Assim: is written (presente), was written (passado), has been written (Present Perfect), is being written (continuous), will be written (futuro) e can be written (modal).
Quadro dos tempos na voz passiva
Frase de partida: The cook prepares the meal.
| Tempo | Ativa | Passiva |
|---|---|---|
| Present Simple | The cook prepares the meal. | The meal is prepared. |
| Past Simple | The cook prepared the meal. | The meal was prepared. |
| Present Continuous | The cook is preparing the meal. | The meal is being prepared. |
| Past Continuous | The cook was preparing the meal. | The meal was being prepared. |
| Present Perfect | The cook has prepared the meal. | The meal has been prepared. |
| Past Perfect | The cook had prepared the meal. | The meal had been prepared. |
| Future com will | The cook will prepare the meal. | The meal will be prepared. |
| Future com going to | The cook is going to prepare the meal. | The meal is going to be prepared. |
| Future Perfect | The cook will have prepared the meal by noon. | The meal will have been prepared by noon. |
| Modal | The cook must prepare the meal. | The meal must be prepared. |
| Modal no passado | The cook should have prepared the meal. | The meal should have been prepared. |
Método passo a passo
- Identifique o tempo da frase ativa (olhe para o verbo auxiliar: am/is/are, was/were, has/have/had, will, can, must...).
- Acrescente o particípio passado do verbo principal.
- Confirme o agente (by...) e a concordância.
A regra do be: be, being, been
| O be da passiva fica... | Exemplo |
|---|---|---|
| só o verbo principal (simples) | am/is/are, was/were | is made, was made |
| forma -ing (continuous) | being | is being made, was being made |
| have/has/had + particípio (perfect) | been | has been made, had been made |
| will, modal ou to + verbo base | be | will be made, can be made, to be made |
Em resumo: o auxiliar do tempo mantém-se, o verbo principal passa para o particípio e, entre os dois, entra be / being / been.
Exemplos resolvidos
Exemplo 1 — Present Continuous
Enunciado: Passe para a voz passiva: They are building a new school.
Resolução:
- Tempo: Present Continuous (are building).
- Complemento direto: a new school; passa a sujeito (singular).
- O auxiliar é is (concorda com a new school).
- Continuous pede being; particípio de build: built.
Resposta: A new school is being built.
Exemplo 2 — Present Perfect
Enunciado: Passe para a voz passiva: The workers have repaired the road.
Resolução:
- Tempo: Present Perfect (have repaired).
- Novo sujeito: the road (singular), logo has.
- Perfect pede been; particípio de repair: repaired.
- O agente the workers pode omitir-se ou manter-se com by.
Resposta: The road has been repaired. (ou The road has been repaired by the workers.) Verificação: has + been + particípio: três elementos que correspondem ao Present Perfect.
Exemplo 3 — Futuro com will
Enunciado: Passe para a voz passiva: They will announce the results tomorrow.
Resolução:
- Tempo: futuro com will.
- Novo sujeito: the results.
- Depois de will, o verbo vem na forma base: be.
- Particípio de announce: announced.
Resposta: The results will be announced tomorrow. Verificação: will não muda com o sujeito (singular ou plural) e be fica sempre na forma base.
Exemplo 4 — Nível de exame
Enunciado: Passe para a voz passiva: (a) The manager was signing the letters when I arrived. (b) You should send the form before Friday. (c) The thieves had taken everything. (d) They are going to open the new market next month.
Resolução:
- (a) Past Continuous: were being + particípio, com the letters (plural): were being signed. A oração com when não muda.
- (b) Modal should: should be + particípio de send, que é sent.
- (c) Past Perfect: had been + particípio de take, que é taken.
- (d) Going to: is going to be + particípio de open: opened. O novo sujeito é the new market, singular.
Resposta: (a) The letters were being signed by the manager when I arrived. (b) The form should be sent before Friday. (c) Everything had been taken by the thieves. (d) The new market is going to be opened next month. Verificação: em cada resposta, o auxiliar do tempo ativo mantém-se (was → were being, should, had, is going to).
Erros frequentes
- Esquecer being no continuous (The road is repaired at the moment). Se a ação está em curso, diga is being repaired.
- Esquecer been no perfect (The letter has written). A forma correta é has been written.
- Usar be conjugado depois de will ou de um modal (will is made, can is done). Depois de will e dos modais vem be.
- Pôr o verbo principal no passado simples (was being wrote, has been broke). Use sempre o particípio: written, broken.
- Mudar o tempo na transformação. The cook has prepared the meal não pode tornar-se The meal was prepared: o Present Perfect pede has been prepared.
- Concordar com o sujeito errado. Em The windows are being cleaned, o auxiliar concorda com windows, não com o agente.

Perguntas frequentes
Olhe para o primeiro auxiliar: is/are/was/were sozinhos indicam presente ou passado simples; being indica continuous; been indica perfect; will be e modais + be indicam futuro ou modalidade.
Quando aparecem being e been?
Being aparece nos tempos contínuos (is being built) e been nos tempos perfeitos (has been built). Em todos os outros casos, o be aparece na forma conjugada ou na forma base (will be built).
Todos os tempos têm voz passiva?
Os mais usados têm. Alguns tempos contínuos perfeitos (has been being...) existem na teoria, mas soam artificiais e raramente aparecem; nesses casos, o inglês prefere a voz ativa.
- Be, being e been: simples → conjugado; continuous → being; perfect → been; will/modal → be.
- Is being built (em curso), has been built (concluído com ligação ao presente), will be built (futuro).
- Modal no passado: should have been done, must have been taken.
- Tempos contínuos perfeitos quase não têm passiva: use a ativa.
- Verifique sempre a concordância do auxiliar com o novo sujeito.
