Quais são os phrasal verbs com «give»?
Resposta curta
Give forma phrasal verbs sobre dar, devolver e ceder: give up (desistir), give in (render-se), give away (oferecer ou revelar), give back (devolver), give out (distribuir), give off (libertar cheiro, calor ou luz) e give way (ceder a passagem). O passado é gave e o particípio é given.
Há duas ordens possíveis: She gave her brother a book ou She gave a book to her brother. Com dois pronomes, a forma mais natural é give it to him, e não give him it.

- Ceder e desistir: give up, give up on, give in, give way.

Aprenda cada expressão como um bloco.
Erros frequentes
- Dizer give up to + verbo. He gave up to play football deve ser He gave up playing football, com o verbo em -ing.
- Pôr o pronome no fim num separável. Give away it e give back it estão errados; diga give it away e give it back.
- Confundir give way e give away.
- Confundir give up e give in. Give up é parar de tentar; give in é aceitar o que o outro quer.
- Errar o passado.
«Dar um passeio» é take a walk, «dar um exame» é take an exam, «dar uma festa» é have ou throw a party.
- Esquecer o on em give up on. Don't give up me não existe; diga Don't give up on me.

Perguntas frequentes
«Give up» leva infinitivo ou -ing?
Leva sempre o verbo em -ing: give up smoking, give up trying. O infinitivo com to depois de give up é um erro comum de quem traduz «desistir de fumar».
Qual é a diferença entre give way e give away?
Posso dizer «give me a call»?
Sim.
